TRIMBLE COMPLETES A SOLID TEST DAY AT WINTON
|
Global Jet V8 Supercar driver Michael Trimble completed his third successful test day of the year at the Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria yesterday.
Trimble, who is one of the leading rookies in the 2008 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series, spent the day getting back into the groove after being out of the car since the previous round of the series which was held at the venue early last month.
He also used the day to familarise himself with his new engineer Rob Palermo.
Throughout the day Trimble completed over 70 laps around the 3.0km Winton circuit aboard the #64 Global Jet Commodore in a solid shakedown for the upcoming round of the series at Bathurst's Mount Panorama circuit.
"Yesterday was another solid test day, it was good to get back in the car and find a good balance ahead of next month's round at Bathurst," said Trimble.
"I've competed at Bathurst in a Carrera Cup car along with two 12 hour races but this will be my first time in a V8 Supercar. By taking some of the lessons I've learnt from my previous races there and add them to what I've learnt this year in a V8 it should put me in good shape.
"I've got a new engineer, Rob Palermo, and yesterday was the first opportunity we had to work together. I felt as though all went well and very smoothly."
Trimble's next outing in the Global Jet Commodore will be in two weeks time at the Mount Panorama circuit alongside the Supercheap Auto 1000.
With two rounds remaining in the 2008 Fujitsu V8 Series, experienced V8 driver Steve Owen holds a commanding lead in the championship standings ahead of David Reynolds and Dean Canto. Trimble is currently eighth on 834 points, only 50 points out of fifth spot.
